Miss Mitten adds palm rat to her list of victims
March 6, 2011
Our cat may have set a new speed record for rat hunting. I let her out the door a few days ago and about 60 seconds later she soared back into the Airstream with a rodent dangling from her jaws. She plopped it on the living room floor and I shouted for Josh as visions of scrubbing blood and guts out of our carpet for the second time that week flashed in my mind. (Our fridge switched off a few days prior and blood from the thawed meat in the freezer drained onto the floor.) Josh yanked the rat by the tail away from the cat using a napkin. Miss Mitten tried to snag it back, but the rat was laid to rest in the trash can on the curb.

Miss Mitten … what a deceiving name for a ravenous predator!!!
If she had eaten the rat she would have looked just like that ornament you painted! LOL
Isn’t your cat named Sarah Palin? In these tales, Josh is Josh and Bonnie is Bonnie, but Sarah has a nom-de-plume?
Haha. Well, the story goes that Sarah was lost for 24hrs in a trailer park last summer in Maine and we had to go up and down the rows of campers crying out “Here Sarah!” and “Miss Paaaalin.” We also had to tell people that name was on her tag. It was awkward. So, we still call her Sarah mostly at home but Miss Mitten is indeed her professional name now. Plus, Sarah Palin is getting less funny these days and more scary. We also call our cat other names that Josh has come up with over the years. Recently, I’ve been calling her “Meatloaf.” In the end, the only thing you can be sure she’ll answer to are the sounds of her food bag rustling or Bill making a sandwich.
