Lead pigs lowered back into bilge
May 6, 2012
Josh and his father reconstructed the schooners’ sole in April. The interior flooring will be sturdier than before because of increased framing support. The lead bricks that account for most of the ship’s ballast will no longer push against the backs of the hull planks as well, an improvement over the previous design. The new structure provides better access to areas of the bilge, keel bolts and water tank.
A new and improved water tank arrived from Venice, Fla. on Friday. The tank’s builder misread a measurement of Josh’s design, however, and so we returned the tank for adjustment, which resulted in another of the project’s many delays.
