Ted seals in the last of the sponsored planks

There is a sponsor for nearly every plank we replaced on the boat. Those sponsorships have been critical to the restoration of “Hindu” and we can’t thank them enough for their support. I will be mailing the last of the sponsors photos of their planks in the upcoming week.

Few frame repairs remain

The Coast Guard indicated a few spots on the frames that still needed a bit of attention. Steve, Cassie and Walt worked together to shore up those areas.

Josh and I traveled nearly the entire east coast in the Airstream last year and we can’t remember how many times strangers would yell at us as we emerged from our bus, “Look, it’s the Griswold’s!” At this point, however, I think that exclamation has been topped with, “Hey, there’s a hole in your boat!”

Well, to all those who have been simply tormented by the fact that a part of our garboard has been missing for three months, you are hereby notified to find something else to heckle about. The hull is officially closed up.

The final two photos in this slideshow compare the “before,” from when we first considered buying “Hindu” in July, with the “after.”

Nearly the entire work crew took some time to work on the caprail. Cristy, Cassie and Steve are featured in the slideshow above.

The caprail is made from white oak but we stained it to look more like mahogany so that it would match the new transom planks, which are made from actual mahogany. In keeping with tradition, even the small, seemingly benign task of choosing a mahogany stain took days to perform. Luckily, I think our efforts paid off.

Ladies pose for fundraising calendar for “Hindu” restoration

A calendar is in the works that features the women of the “Hindu” restoration project in very, uh, natural, light. We hope to sell the 2013 calendars in order to offset the costs of the restoration. If all goes well, the calendars should be available some time next month.
